Measles cases level-off in East Lancashire
5:00pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
MEASLES cases remained stable in the Cumbria and Lancashire in June, following the roll-out of a national vaccination programme.
There were three cases across the region, the same number reported in May.
Dr Shelagh Garnett, of Public Health England, said: “While it’s too early to say the MMR catch-up campaign is responsible for the declining number of measles cases, we can say children who have not had the MMR vaccine remain at high risk of catching the disease.
“We are making progress towards the 95 per cent target, but there still remains a number of 10-16 year olds in Cumbria and Lancashire, together with some younger children and adults, who are under-vaccinated.”
