Roses mark Accrington Stanley anniversary
1:37pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
ACCRINGTON Stanley came up smelling of roses after their lunchtime kick off at Portsmouth.
Award-winning company iflorist, based in Padiham, gave out 125 red roses to mark the 125th anniversary of the Football League.
Iflorist managing director David Price said: “We just wanted to do our bit to mark the 125th anniversary of the Football League and what better way than saying it with roses at one of the founder members of the Football League?.”
Accrington were one of 12 founder members of the Football League and Stanley were playing their first home game of the season on Saturday, in this special season.
Iflorist ladies Emily Taylor, Francesca Berry and Lauren Anderson gave out the roses to Accrington and Pompey fans before their League Two clash, which ended 2-2.
And they had a special surprise for Stanley turnstile operator June Jordan who received a hand-made bouquet of iflorist roses to mark her 50th wedding anniversary to husband, lifelong Stanley fan Barry.
