Accident can't slow down Blackburn salesman
A DEATH-defying snow mobile accident has spurred a Blackburn corporate car executive to reach sales targets in record time.
Bowker BMW business development manager Richard Cowell, 35, from Rawtenstall, has reached 12-month sales targets for the dealership’s business partnership in just six months.
And this is despite spending one of those six months in recuperation recovering from a 50mph snowmobile collision in Vancouver earlier in the year.
Richard feared the recovery time would mean missed targets.
He said: “I’m not the kind of bloke who likes to be sat around.
“Four weeks seemed like a lifetime. The hospital consultant told me to take at least six weeks off.
“But I went back two weeks early. It was driving me crazy doing nothing all day.
“We all have clear targets. And I knew that four weeks away from work would leave me needing to catch up.
“But everything fell into place when I came back.
“We had some good offers on at the time. And I quickly called round all the clients.
“Many were intrigued about the accident too – so we had plenty to talk about.
“And the orders came in.”
Richard sustained horrific injuries in May when he lost control of a snowmobile during an all-expenses-paid trip in Vancouver, from BMW.
When he hit a tree at around 50mph in the Canadian wilderness, he escaped with his life, but was left with serious leg injuries.
Injuries included a six-inch long, bone-deep gash, which required eight stitches, and 14 staples.
Richard’s boss Chris Eccles said: “Richard’s figures are a credit to him.
“But, to be honest, his performance didn’t surprise me.
“How many people signed off for six weeks after such an horrific accident would actually come back two weeks early!
“Most would be out for months.
“It’s not all about how many cars we sell – Richard knows that.
“And like many of his colleagues, Richard’s focus is on looking after customers – plain and simple.
“If there is any reason for this incredible performance, then it’s that level of customer service.”
