Seaside comes to Blackburn museum
3:47pm Monday 12th August 2013 in News
BLACKBURN’S town centre beach is just part of the borough council’s appeal to residents to be Beside the Sea this summer.
The theme extends to Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery.
It is mounting a multi-sensory exhibition on the resort concept, where visitors are encouraged to get hands-on.
They can ‘tag’ an oil painting as part of the national Your Paintings project, listen to sounds of the seaside and create and post a postcard from their dream holiday destination.
The exhibition explores how artists from around the world have been inspired by the power of the sea.
Celebrating the popularity of seaside trips during the 1800s and early 1900s to places like Blackpool, it will look at the seaside as a great source of relief from hard working lives.
The exhibition is free and will last until September 21.
It follows the creation of a sandy beach, water fun rides, slides and beach huts on King William Street lasting throughout August.
