Truck pull raises £10k for Darwen's Sam Shaw fund
2:22pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in News
A CHARITY truck-pull raised more than £10,000 towards cancer patient Sam Shaw’s treatment in America.
Landlady of The Victoria pub Emma Whittaker, who organised the event in Sudell Road, said she had so far received £10,500 for the appeal. And there was still more than £1,000 to come in and cash raised included a donation of £1,000 from the pub’s takings.
The event saw teams of eight men and 12 women pull a truck along the road, which was closed for the day last weekend. As well as the truck-pull there was live music, face painting for the children and a raffle.
Emma said: “Everyone did really well that day. I was really proud.
“It was a great day and everyone who came along had fun.”
The parents of four-year-old Hoddlesden neuroblastoma sufferer Sam, Christine and Carl, have until the middle of October to raise the last of the £250,000 needed to take Sam to the US for immunotherapy treatment. Yesterday, more than £220,000 was already confirmed as raised, with money coming in all the time. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/samshawappeal.
