Teenage boys freed by fire crews after being trapped in Blackburn Mall lift
1:54pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in News
THREE teenage boys were freed by fire crews after a lift broke down in Blackburn's Mall yesterday.
Reece Thompson, 15, Liam Hammon, 17, and Daniel Studley, 16, all from Blackburn, were stuck for around half an hour.
Reece said: “I’m claustrophobic so it was horrible.”
Watch manager Paul Guynan, from Blackburn Fire Station, said: “They called us themselves so we turned up and located the lift, and the engineer came out.
“It was stuck between the floors, so we dropped it three or four feet to the ground floor and pulled them out."
Loraine Jones, general manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “Our lift maintenance partner, Schindler, received a call via the lift’s internal alarm system at 2pm to say that the lift had stopped working and three people were inside it.
“The operator spoke to the men and informed them that an engineer had been called.”
