Liverpool Care Pathway campaigner from Burnley says 'review is too late'
8:00am Friday 9th August 2013 in News
CAMPAIGNER Sharon Kinlin-Martin believes her 81-year-old mum Joan, from Burnley, was placed on the LCP without her knowledge in 2011, and she travelled to London to contribute to the Neuberger Review.
She said: “I met a lot of traumatised people and heard some harrowing stories, but this review has all come too late.
“In my view the Pathway is a loophole to euthanise somebody.
“It was brought in to help people, but the dehydration aspect of it really worries me. How many people are there who actually want to stop drinking when they are dehydrated and dying?
“It might work in a small hospice, but I think there’s a big question about whether it should be used in a failing trust like East Lancashire, where there aren’t enough staff to look after people.”
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has disputed Mrs Kinlin-Martin’s version of events, and the health service ombudsman is currently investigating her complaint.
