Visitors enjoy Blackburn's beach
10:29am Thursday 8th August 2013 in News
WE all love to be beside the sea-side but yesterday beach lovers soaked up the sun outside Blackburn Town Hall.
A sandy beach, water fun rides, slides and beach huts have transformed King William Street into the hottest place to be this summer.
For the rest of August, the town centre will be a seaside style resort for families to enjoy.
Barbara Smith, from Lammack, sunned herself on a deck chair while her grandaughter, six-year-old Isabella made sandcastles.
“We came into town especially and we were the first here.
“It’s a really lovely way to spend family time and it’s something different for the children.
“It’s been a really special day out.”
Zara Cook, from Higher Croft, enjoyed her day at the ‘beach’ with her two playful children, Kristian and Tegan.
“It can be difficult to find things to keep the children occupied over summer and so something like this in the town centre is really convenient. We’ve really enjoyed it. The kids couldn’t wait to get here and play on the slides.”
The Blackburn beach, which is supported by the council, will be open every day from 10am to 6pm until Sunday, September 1.
