Man suffers broken leg in Nelson hit-and-run
A PEDESTRIAN suffered a broken leg in a hit and run collision with a car.
The 42-year-old was walking along Charles Street, Nelson, close to its junction with Reedyford Road, when a dark-coloured saloon vehicle knocked him over.
Police have appealed for witnesses to help them find the driver who failed to stop at the scene.
After the incident, at around 11.45pm on Tuesday, the car continued towards Charles Street in the direction of Nelson town centre. Det Sgt Charlie Haynes from Pennine CID made a direct appeal to the driver to contact police.
He said: ““I am confident that somebody would have heard or seen this incident. There are a number of CCTV cameras in this area which detectives are in the process of examining.
“The victim has been left with serious injuries including a broken leg bone and is extremely shaken by this ordeal.
“I am also directly appealing for the driver to contact me.
“They would have been aware of the collision and may be able to offer an explanation as to why he had failed to stop. They should do the right thing and come forward .”
Anyone with information can contact DS Haynes at Pennine CID in confidence by calling 01282 472240.
