FORMER Blackburn Rovers defender Ken Taylor and his wife Gladys will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday.
The Langho couple, both 82, met in a cafe on Preston New Road, Blackburn in 1950, after Ken had moved down from Newcastle following a successful trial with the Rovers’ first team.
They married at Park Road Congregational Church in Blackburn in 1953, and had two sons, Ashley and Timothy.
Ken played about 250 games at full back for Rovers over 14 years, while Gladys set up Taylor’s Cake Shop in Little Harwood, where she was joined by Ken once he gave up playing. The shop was a prominent feature in the village for 32 years.
When asked what the key to their marriage was, Gladys said: “Living and working together can be very demanding, so you’ve got to be tolerant of each other, and never go to bed on an argument.”
The couple live in Coronation Terrace and also have twin granddaughters.
