HAWKSHAW Village Fun Day is to be staged on Saturday, June 29, as a one-off “stopgap” before its popular gala returns in 2014.

Organisers are hoping residents will come out and support the event, to be held between noon and 5pm.

One of the organisers, Nicky Leeth said: “This year instead of the gala we are having a village fete where Hawkshaw St Mary’s School and Church, Hawkshaw Methodist Church and the gala committee are all pooling resources.

“It is a real community effort. The fun will centre around the south side of the village with a mixture of craft and charity stalls in St Mary’s Church and school. In the area behind the church there will be the Ramsbottom Army Cadet force who will be running a series of demonstrations.”

Food and drink attractions include a barbecue, lunches and afternoon tea in St Mary’s School hall, food stalls and a licensed bar.

There will be a car boot sale in the school yard, plant, book and white elephant stalls, music in the memorial garden and activities including pony rides. The day will end with the annual best of three tug-of-war.
