A DARWEN student is celebrating winning a competition to design the menu artwork for a national restaurant chain.

Rachel Fenwick, 21, will now see her painting adorn the front cover of Nando’s menus across the UK.

Fine-art student Rachel, of High Bank Crescent, made it through several rounds of judging and beat hundreds of applicants to win the coveted prize.

The former St Peter’s Primary School and St Wilfrid’s High School pupil, who studies at Nottingham Trent University, used an old photograph bought at a flea market in Portugal to inspire a colourful collage. She said: “I loved the vibrant and bright colours of the buildings and rooftops of Lisbon and I wanted to represent that with the colours.

“I have been interested in art from a very young age. I was always sitting on my little red table creating or drawing something.”

Rachel, whose lives with her parents Sue and Eddie Fenwick, added: “I am so excited to have won.

“It is an absolutely amazing opportunity for me and I can’t wait for my friends and family to see my painting on the new Nando’s menu.

“I even celebrated in Nando’s the night I found out I had won.”

A spokesman for Nando’s said: “It is no secret that Nando’s loves art.

“We source our artwork directly from South Africa, and boast a 4,000-strong collection across our restaurants. In December, we ran a creative competition to celebrate Nando’s talented fans, where peri-peri chicken devotee Rachel put her artistic skills to the test.”
