BLACKBURN band Sky Valley Mistress will be performing at this year’s Red Bull Download Festival.

After beating off competition from other bands across the UK, the trio received thousands of votes from fans.

Vocalist Kayley ‘Hell Kitten’ Davies, guitarist Squire and drummer Maxwell Harvey William Newsome III will perform at Donington Park in June.

Maxwell said that the support from fans and Lancashire Telegraph readers were welcomed by the three 19-year-old musicians.

He said: “I thought that we had given it a good shot, but I really didn’t think that we had got through. People were voting like mad and we ended up with 104,000 likes on Facebook alone.

All of our friends and family supported us, we don’t have a manager either so we have done well to come this far alone.

“We are just a local band who love to perform, we want to say thanks to the Lancashire Telegraph readers for voting as well.

“We are the only band from Lancashire who will be performing there.”

Sky Valley Mistress were picked as a wild card by the judges, after coming in seventh place.

Max said: “We couldn’t believe that the judges picked us. We are all so excited. Strangely, we are really relaxed about performing in front of thousands. It’s just unbelievable, to be honest. We are hoping that this is a start of good things to come We are staying all weekend so we will be handing out CDs backstage, taking advantage of this amazing opportunity.”
