AN MP is backing a bid to ensure deaf children get the support they need at school.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones is supporting the campaign launched by The National Deaf Children’s Society which is calling for specialist services to be available to those in need.

The society has asked for support for its Stolen Futures campaign, aimed at ensuring every deaf child can access services such as Teachers of the Deaf.

Mr Jones recently boarded the society’s travelling ‘Listening Bus’ to speak with volunteers and deaf children in Westminster.

Mr Jones said: “Specialist teachers provide one-to-one support to help deaf children overcome communication barriers in the classroom, ensure the equipment they use, such as hearing aids, is working and support classroom teachers to meet the unique needs of deaf children.”

Susan Daniels, chief executive at NDCS, said: “Through our campaign thousands of people have shown their support, and the support of Graham Jones is hugely appreciated.”
