A PEDESTRIAN is recovering in hospital after being knocked down by a car.
The 49-year-old woman was walking along Market Street in Darwen when a blue Audi travelling along Duckworth Street mounted the pavement and hit her.
The car ploughed into a metal bike rail before colliding with the woman at around 10pm last night.
Witnesses dialled 999.
Paramedics took the woman to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with a suspected broken leg
The driver, a 33-year-old man from Blackburn, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We received a call around 10pm about a car hitting a female pedestrian in Market Street, Darwen.
“The woman suffered leg injuries that have been described as neither life-changing or life-threatening.
“Officers detained a 33-year-old man from Blackburn at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.”
A 33-year-old man is currently still in police custody awaiting questioning.
