FURTHER heavy snow has hit East Lancashire overnight causing widespread disruption.

A number of roads have been closed following blizzard conditions across most of the area.

The A56 southbound is closed between the M65 and the A679 after a HGV jack-knifed, and the road is expected to remain closed until around noon.

In the early hours of Saturday morning another vehicle had to be recovered from the road following a collision, but the driver was not hurt.

One lane of the M65 westbound between junction six and five was closed for an hour between 6.30am and 7.30am after a vehicle collided with the central reservation. The driver was not injured but the vehicle and debris had to be recovered by motorway police.

The Grane Road is still closed this morning from junction five of the M65 to Holcombe Road, while Blackburn Old Road, in Great Harwood, near to the Spice Lounge is also still closed.

Egerton Road, in Belmont, is also closed due to three abandoned vehicles which is restricting gritters access to clear the snow.

Roman Road in Blackburn, between Johnson New Road and Pot House Lane, is also closed this morning due to heavy snow drifts.

Police said that the snow had caused more disruption the further east you went in the county, and rural areas of Pendle, including Earby, Trawden and Laneshaw Bridge had been badly hit.

The A6068 Keighley Road is blocked between the School Lane junction in Laneshaw Bridge and the Old Lane junction in Cowling because of abandoned vehicles.

North Yorkshire Police and Lancashire Police are working with the local councils to try and get the road reopened.

The A56 between Earby and Thornton in Craven is also closed because of heavy snow drifts and a lorry and a bus are also stuck on the road.

Most Transdev bus services are still running, but the 280 service is unable to reach Bracewell, the number two service is unable to operate via Pole Lane and Marsh House Lane, in Darwen, and the 124 service between Blackburn and Chorley will be sticking to main roads only.
