Free bus pass scheme to help East Lancs youngsters find work
4:27pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
ALMOST 500 young people across Lancashire have benefited from a county council scheme to help them afford the bus to find jobs.
The scheme to provide all 16 to 18-year-olds not in employment, education or training with a free bus pass started in December and has already resulted in successful searches for employment. During the first four months, 480 young people received passes after meeting county staff who offered support and advice on finding work or getting back into education.
The pass helped Sophie, 17, from Clitheroe, get to Blackburn College to study for a Level 2 Qualification in hair and beauty from September.
Lancashire County Council’s young people’s boss Mark Perks said: “Having to find the money to travel to an appointment is a barrier to young people looking for their next opportunity and the stories of some of those who have received a free bus pass show this scheme is making a real difference.”
