Venky's to blame for club's turmoil, say Rovers fans
12:40pm Wednesday 20th March 2013 in News
By Dan Clough, Reporter
EXIT DOOR: Michael Appleton leaves Brockhall after clearing his office yesterday.
BLACKBURN Rovers yesterday said they were not surprised to hear the news that manager Michael Appleton had been sacked.
Many supporters were pleased to see the 37-year-old, who had been in charge for just 15 games, relieved of his duties after just four wins and a string of poor performances.
But a large number blamed Venky’s for the club’s perilous position, with Rovers hovering just four points above the Championship relegation zone.
James Maynard, 61, of Blackburn, said: “I think it is the right decision. He hasn’t done well enough since he came in.
“We need to bring in a decent manager this time instead of taking a gamble.”
Mr Maynard’s wife, June, 57, said: “If we don’t stay up then we have got to blame Venky’s. They just don’t seem to know what they are doing.”
Twenty-nine-year-old Mark Andrews, of Rishton, said: “I was not surprised when I heard about the sacking.
“We need someone bigger than Michael Appleton. But I don’t think Venky’s have any clue what they are doing.”
Meanwhile John Clough, 58, of Harle Syke, Burnley - originally from Darwen - said: “It is an absolute shambles at the moment. The players mustn’t have a clue what is going on. It must be some kind of record to have six managers in one season.”
Student Hammas Khan, 17, of Blackburn, said it was the right decision. He said: “Appleton deserved to go as the results had not been good enough. But I think Venky’s are to blame for the poor form as well.”
Fifty-three-year-old Bernard Walmsley, also of Blackburn, said: “I don’t know what they are doing at the top level.
“They are clutching at straws going for these inexperienced managers when there are more experienced people out there.
“They could have given it to Billy Davies last time but instead went for Appleton.”
Bernard Maloney, 66, of Blackburn, said he wasn’t surprised, especially after the bad football the team had played recently.
He said: “If we don’t win our next three games then we are in trouble. Sacking the manager was probably the right decision in the long term.”
Jerome Hayes, 33, of Blackburn, said: “Venky’s didn’t give him enough money to build a good team. Who is going to come in and replace him? They can’t just keep sacking people.”
Forty-five-year-old Stephen Manners said Appleton was the wrong person for the job.
While Blackburnian David Metcalfe, 28, said: “Venky’s need to buck their ideas up. I stopped going this season because Venky’s have ruined everything and I can’t see myself going back anytime soon.”
But Jamie King, 24, of Blackburn, said it was not the right decision. He said: “I am disappointed as they seem to have rushed into this decision.
And Richard Boardman, 26, of Darwen, said: “I disagree with the decision. Appleton talked a lot of sense and hasn’t had time to build his team.”

It's amazing that they have stayed the length of time they have considering the hostility they have endured, including being physically assaulted with snowballs. It won't come as any surprise if they sell up to the lowest bidder and leave the placed totally riddled with unmanageable debt. You'll be wishing you'd have got behind them then.

Rather have Venks and hope they appoint a decent Chairman/Manager than lose Venky's and go into administration!!
Nobody else will bank roll it like they have...and as for blaming someone look at Anderson/Shaw and Shebby all of who picked the managers and all who convinced Venks to sign the wrong people.
We need to get the boardroom right, then they will appoint a decent manager and maybe, just maybe, we can move forward.
OR the other alternative push Venks out and go into administration....I know what i perfer!

( before they bought Rovers they nearly bought Everton....because they play in Blue and White ! )
As such they are ultimately responsible; but the real culprits are those people who have milked their ignolrance and the clubs resources for their own gain.
i.e. Jerome Anderson, Paul Agnew, Derek Shaw and Shebby Singh.
The worrying thing is that Venkys don't seem to learn. Can't imagine they would put up with this in their other lines of business.
Get rid of the parasites.

Being, supposedly, successful businessmen they should know that any successful company division is only as good as it's leadership, but in 2 years we have had no leadership at Ewood, or worse still, very poor leadership. This has been very apparent to everyone associated with football in England, but not to Venkys.
It seems that they have a Bengal Tiger by the tail and are clueless about what to do, and too arrogant to admit it.

It's so obvious that there is just a power struggle between Agnew/Shaw and Shebby Singh.
Unfortunately Venky's cannot make their minds up which side of the fence to stand on. Two months ago it ws Shaw and Agnew's. Yesterday it was Singh's.
To be fair to Venky's they have put money into signings for us but they have been seriously, badly advised in the signing of three quarters of these players.
Ths also applies to managers. It's obvious from who we appointed as manager over the past two seasons that they simply not been skilled and/or experienced enough to manage at this level.
You would think by now that surely they know they have been ripped off here, there and everywhere by so called agents, so called managers, back room staff, players etc.
And so hae us fans for having to watch the dire football week in and out.
But the main architect in all of this, is Singh.
Venky's. You need to sell the club so that we, (the paying people) can take it back and start enjoying our beloved team again.
But please please please make sure you sell it to people in the know of the game this time.

Yes! In any other professional field of employment, it is expected that folk turn up to work and work to their optimum capacity, however there are always some who don't. They can be performance managed, but football is a different ball game! Hate Fergy at United but you need a extremely strong character to manage a footballers ego. Unfortunately, none at Ewood.
I think the players need to play their socks off to stay up, ownership and management is no excuse!

The obvious answer is because they are thick; but underlying this it's probably because BFC are ultimately very boring.
Turf Moor's capacity is more than 22 000; yet the average attendance is around 14, 000. I know Burnley is a deprived area... but to read the Burnley fans on here you would think they were a well supported club....they are not.
Dyche is doing well to control the wage bills.....essential for the survival of any small club.
It is sad to see a once proud and succcessful club ( 1970's in the first division ) floundering in the middle of the Championship.....but every club finds it's own level.
Long may Burnley's mediocrity last.

And so it goes on.

Prem money has gone. Saleable assets all but exhausted. Parachute payments declining.

Decline and near oblivion (1976–1987)
Graph showing Burnley's performance from the first season of the Football League in 1888–89 to 2011–12 when they finished 13th in the Championship.Three non-descript seasons in the Second Division followed before relegation to the Third Division in 1979–80. Of 42 league games, Burnley could not manage a win in either their first or last 16. Two seasons later, now under the management of Brian Miller, they were promoted as champions. However, this return was short-lived, lasting only one year; albeit a year in which the team reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the League Cup, recording victories over Spurs and Liverpool in the latter, although the 1–0 win over Liverpool in the League Cup semi final second leg was not enough for an appearance in the final as Burnley had lost the first leg 3–0.
Managerial changes continued to be made in an unsuccessful search for success; Miller was replaced by Frank Casper in early 1983, he by John Bond before the 1983–84 season and Bond himself by John Benson a season later.
Benson was in charge when Burnley were relegated to the fourth level of English football for the first time ever at the end of the 1984–85 season. Martin Buchan (briefly) and then Tommy Cavanagh saw the side through the 1985–86 season before Miller returned for the 1986–87 season, the last match of which is known as 'The Orient Game'. For the 1986–87 season, the Football League had decided to introduce automatic relegation and promotion between the Fourth Division and the Conference league, the top tier of non-league football. Although, in retrospect, this has only served to blur the lines between professional and semi-professional leagues in England, at the time it was perceived that teams losing league status might never recover from this. Additionally, Burnley had a new local rival in Colne Dynamoes who were rapidly progressing through the English non-league system at the same time as the former champions of England were in the lowest level of the league. After a disastrous season (which also saw a first round FA Cup 3–0 defeat at non-league Telford), Burnley went into the last match needing a win against Leyton Orient. A 2–1 win, with goals from Neil Grewcock and Ian Britton, was enough to keep Burnley in Division Four, although even that achievement still relied on a loss by Lincoln City in their last game of the season.
Keep up the good work Mr Dyche.

I cant agree with you about us getting an experienced manager in - never mind what the month it is....surely people must see that the owners have proved time and time again that the one (perhaps the only) thing that they are consistent on is in selecting cheap inexperienced people to manage our club. That wont change.
But good luck to Team GB anyway, even if it is surely one step too far for him too...he is being set-up to take a tumble as we tumble out of this god forsaken league where everyone is rubbish apart from maybe two or three teams.
Any half-decent side would get promoted from this league as long as they showed some consistency over the season....that is what makes the season and the rubbish decisions the owners make so stupidly crazy.

Venkys stick by a manager, it dosent work out, we get relegated, everyone hates him, we complain. Venkys sack a manager who we dont like, we complain.
Obviously barring sacking John Williams & pals, Venkys havent done a whole lot wrong. They've invested more money than the Jack Walker trust ever did & cleared our debt. Had they left the management structure intact and invested to the same proptortion they have done to date we may be hailing them as fantastic owners. At the end of the day we've always said Venkys can raise thier reputation by consulting the fans more and being more open about the way they run the business. All it takes is for them to hire a good manager with good backroom staff, get us back looking like a fighting club and keep the cash flow coming in. Most clubs would dream of owners with this kind of cash. If Venkys do sell up it will destroy Rovers so it's pretty much like it or lump it at the moment.

Unless there is a subsection in their contracts that states quite clearly that "We can sack you anytime we like and not pay any compensation" then Venky's, as the owners of the Club don't have a leg to stand on.
My concern is that any decent, experienced manager who might be considering the job will take one look at what has happened with Kean, Berg and possibly Appleton and simply walk away.

The owners are very selfish I agree with you on that point, they are very aloof and don't care one jot about the football club if it continues to carry their name through Europe. If you stupidly accuse the fans of being fickle, what is buying a football club when you don't care or know anything about football if it's not fickle, fool.

Venkys have gone about running our club on the cheap in the hope they would get lucky with a cheap manager and cheap players. It could have happened, would have been amazing if it did, but it didnt.
