Over-50s gardening course blossoms in Darwen

OVER-50s with green fingers but no garden will get the chance to learn how to grow plants for window boxes next month.

Blackburn with Darwen with Age UK, in partnership with Groundwork, is running a free ‘Container Gardening’ course for local over-50s.

The course, which will run for three weeks, will show people how to grow a range of flowers, vegetables and herbs in containers to suit the amount of space they have. The course, now booked up, will be in Darwen Access Point on Wednesday mornings starting in early April.

Alison Hartley, ageing well co-ordinator at Age UK, said: “Gardening can be fun and satisfying but we know there are lots of older people in Blackburn with Darwen who don’t have gardens. “This course aims to teach them what they could grow in the smallest of spaces and brighten up their surroundings this spring."
