High tech aid for mental health in East Lancs

FUNDING has been secured for new handheld computers that will boost children’s mental health services.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust has been given £49,000 to purchase the specialist tablet computers for children and young people to use in their therapy sessions.

The devices will also help therapist instantly access information that details how close they are to achieving treatment goals while also tracking their progress and cutting admistrative tasks.

Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb said: “Acting early to help children with mental health problems can prevent a lifetime of suffering, as half of those with lifelong mental health problems experience symptoms before the age of 14. This technology helps children and young people see how treatment is progressing."
