Police praise fans despite 12 arrests at East Lancs derby game
10:59am Monday 18th March 2013 in News
PRAISE: Supt Puttock
POLICE have praised fans for their behaviour at yesterday's big derby between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley.
A spokesman said there were 12 arrests, most for relatively minor offences and some damage was caused to a number of buses by people travelling on them and also to some toilets at Ewood Park.
The game ended 1-1 and Supt Jon Puttock, from Blackburn Police, said: “I would like to thank the supporters for being patient, especially around travel arrangements.
“Our primary aim was to ensure that people could enjoy the game safely and that the law- abiding decent supporters didn’t have their day ruined by a small minority.
“It was clear that at the end of the game there was a number of people intent on causing trouble but the police, working closely with stewards, prevented this from happening.
“The game has passed of without any major incident, although some toilets were damaged in the Darwen End and also some windows were pushed out of some of the buses."
Some 4,000 Burnley fans had to travel to Ewood on coaches with most setting off from Turf Moor and a smaller number from Clayton-le-Moors.
The match was held up for several minutes in the first half when a chicken with a Blackburn Rovers scarf was thrown on to the pitch from the Riverside stand.

What gets me is why the decent majority allow this to go on / turn a blind eye. These vandals and troublemakers should be outed to Police / Stewards. If we rid the game of these, then maybe we can travel to a derby game "normally"

What were the huge amount of police doing while this damage was happening, I'll tell you what, sat on 2 horses outside the Aquaduct pub, using their far right bully boy tactics, shouting at 2 young lads singing on their way home.
Maybe its time Supt Jon Pillock started earning his huge wage and final salary pension and deploying his staff where they're needed. You could see what was going to happen when the inbreds started throwing seats. Well I could see it, but then I've always had plenty of common sense & a brain in my head, so I didn't need to hide behind a uniform, have constant instruction and training cos I can't think for myself. That's why I didn't join the police force!
