Darwen car wash plans redrawn
11:13am Thursday 14th March 2013 in News
CONTROVERSIAL plans to set up a car wash business near Whitehall Park have been resubmitted to the council.
Lookman Patel’s proposal to establish the car wash business on the corner of Whitehall Street and Cemetery Road was thrown out by council planners last year.
Whitehall councillors David and Karimeh Foster then opposed the plans on the grounds of traffic, parking, drainage, noise and loss of amenity.
Coun David Foster said he would be opposing the fresh application on the same grounds.
But the applicant claimed an amendment to the design, with the entrance and exit the opposite way round, would satisfy the concerns around parking and traffic.
In a design access statement submitted as part of the application, Mr Patel said: “The orientation of the development has been changed from the earlier refusal.
“Cars will enter the site from the end nearest the other units and leave in a forward gear on to Whitehall Street before joining Cemetery Road.
“There will be no reversing manoeuvres on the adjacent highway network.
“There will be no standing or parking of vehicles on the adjacent highway because of the complete restrictions.”

No doubt this car wash will be constructed out of highest quality building materials, using conservative colours to blend in with the surrounding area...or not, as the case may inevitably be.

Even if it only takes just another two off the jobless total it's well worth it, isn't it?
Every little helps and we need people like this to help generate jobs. OK, we won't solve all our problems opening just car washes, but small operations like these can make a big difference to someone who is looking for a job and is currently out of work and on their 'beam ends'.
