East Lancashire towns ranked among UK's best places to live

TWO East Lancashire towns feature on a list of the most desirable places to live in the North West.

Clitheroe and Ramsbottom appear in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live top 10, which takes into account transport links, quality of schools and natural beauty. The towns were also graded on their low crime rates, property prices, cultural life and unemployment figures.

They will now feature in the Home section of the Sunday Times’s March 17 and March 24 editions. Michael Ranson, leader of Ribble Valley Council said the listing was fantastic news.

He said: “I am delighted to hear that we have been highlighted as one of the best places to live. What attracts people to Clitheroe is the individualistic shops we have got. I also think the rail link is very important. We have the most fantastic countryside on our doorstep.

Coun Ian Bevan, who rep-resents Ramsbottom at Bury Council, said he believed the town’s success was down to the warmth and friendliness of the people who live there.

He said: “The town has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years.

“We have had a lot of tourism and inward investment, which is great for the traders.

“It seems Ramsbottom is a boom town and I am very happy it has been recognised as an excellent place to live.”

Good transport links in Ramsbottom - no rail service, congested motorway and road links into Bury, Bolton? An odd choice. Clitheroe is a pleasant place to live but soon to be destroyed by all those seeking to live there in the many housing developments proposed. I can think of much better places to live but they are a secret!

Good place if your ethnic or illegal or just plain old any people with no! economic power! .
That's what they mean!, their trying to get the scum to move north.
Not because their racist no! its for the property prices?.
Would the house prices go up in the south, if the immigrants and scum move?.( YES! )
This is all about cost of living in London and greater London .
Those who have to move out of London are being pushed to relocate around the north west.( rent costs are 30%-35% cheaper, north of the midlands)
So the housing benefit bill will be less, they hope!.
But the truth is! it will go up because of the local landlords seeing a market open up will make a killing.
More people less property = high rent.( supply and demand? )
Its just propaganda for the government, Just to balance the books.
With no consideration for the local population! who ever they are?
( Sorry forgot the local population don't have a say )
And you can take that to the bank!, like the government is doing?.
Then the banks will rob them, "nothing changes".
When it does happen the ribble valley & clitheroe wont suffer, it will be Accrington, Burnley, Blackburn & Preston will take the weight.
Yes the northwest does have its positives,( keep ya gob shut fools ) but if you go and share it with every one in the world.
There be nothing left for us!

Hey! Burnley's on the up, now Kitty Ussher has been replaced by Gordon Birtwistle. Give him a few more years and it'll be up there on the list.

No reason Blackburn can't be too, and Darwen.

True, there are some deep down bad un's. But targeting our resources, keeping them confined, who knows?

Jeez, dude, the world ain't that bad.

No disrespect but your grammar is though. I can't understand if you are saying that Clitheroe is a good or bad place for "ethnics" and "immigrants"?

Are you saying that the government are advertising the Ribble Valley as an attractive place to live, specifically targeting particular markets, for some kind of property scam for landlords? What do the government gain from this relationship? What "book" gets balanced?

I'm genuinely perplexed with your rant.

I'm feeling bad asking this, but are you known to your local social services?
