20p online casino bet scoops £258,670 for Burnley call centre worker

A CALL centre worker certainly hit the bullseye when he scooped £258,670 from a 20p bet.

Darts-mad Richard Taylor, 45, from Burnley, wasn’t even looking at his computer when he landed the jackpot from a single spin on an on-line casino.

But Richard, who earns around £20,000-a-year, said his first purchase with his new found wealth will be a new car.

He said: “It’s still not really sunk in. It’s about the equivalent of 20 years’ wages as I won’t pay any tax on my winnings. It is the best 20p I’ve ever spent.

“I had racing on TV and had put 20p on the casino game when I heard a horse named called Pancake.

“I turned away from the computer to look at the horse as I’d not heard it mentioned for ages and then when I looked back there were five gold symbols and the winnings where spinning in.

“Before this I’d never seen more than one gold symbol at any time on the screen. It was amazing as it just came in.

“When it stopped the figure was £258,670 and I was completely shocked. I’ve not got a car at present, but that will probably be my first buy. I currently lodge with friends, so now I can buy my own home.

“It’s not enough for me to retire, but it will make life a lot easier. I won’t be worrying about the bills and I’ll be able to go wherever I want on holiday.”

Single Richard won the money on the Super Spins Bar X on the William Hill online casino after he was having trouble sleeping ahead of his nightshift and decided to place his bet.

The keen Claret joked that he could now afford to buy the club with his life-changing sum. “I am a Burnley fan and could probably buy the club with that sort of money the way they are playing at present,” he said.

“I am still in shock really as I was playing the game to pass the time before I went to sleep ahead of my night shift.

“I was just pressing the buttons when the win happened – I only had to lift a finger to land a fortune. It is absolutely fantastic.

“I might even splash out on a season ticket for Turf Moor – I’d really love some of my luck rub off on the team.”
