Eleven jobs in East Lancashire go as Thomas Cook closes two branches

THOMAS Cook is closing two of its East Lancashire branches.

Its Haslingden and Darwen travel agencies will lose five and six staff respectively.

The firm said a wish to slash administrative costs and restructure the company was behind the job losses.

Joanna Wild, managing director of the Thomas Cook Co-operative retail network, said: “We regularly review our network to make sure we have the right stores in the right places for our customers.

“Regrettably, there are occasions where we need to close certain branches. Following careful consideration, we have announced that two stores are proposed to close in East Lancashire and we are working with those colleagues who are affected. “We’d like to thank both our colleagues and customers for their commitment and understanding during this process.”

The closures come after it was announced last week that 100 call centre positions will be axed from Accrington’s Globe Centre, St James Street.
