Hyndburn Council’s watchdogs work out priorities

A WATCHDOG committee at a local council is to look at which pressing concerns should be their priority this year.

Hyndburn Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee assess the main body of the council and the authority’s actions and decisions.

The group also assess external agencies and the council’s relationship to them. At their meeting this month they are set to draft a raft of issues to make their priorities in the new municipal council year which starts in April.

All councillors and heads of service were last month requested to submit suggestions for items to be considered by the team.

So far a draft list of priorities includes an assessment of policing of the borough following cuts, suggested by Coun Doug Hayes. The team are also expected to look at the progress of the pioneering new Hyndburn Studio School.

The committee are to approve their work schedule for the year at a public meeting being held at Scaitcliffe House, Ormerod Street, Accrington at 10am on Wednesday, March 20.
