£300 to pay after windows smashed at Blackburn showroom

A 31-YEAR-OLD man went into a car sales compound and smashed windows on three cars.

Blackburn magistrates heard Eric Richard Askey denied any involvement, claiming he would have been at work. But police got a DNA hit from blood on one of the vehicles which showed Askey had been present.

Askey, 31, of Great Bolton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

He was ordered to pay £300 compensation and fines and costs of £120 were set against a night spent in custody. Jonathan Taylor, defending, said at the time of the offences Askey was drinking far too much and he had no recollection of it.

“Despite that he accepts he must have been there and was more than likely to have caused the damage,” said Mr Taylor.
