Gang steal £5k worth of jewellery from Blackburn's Pandora shop
9:30am Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News
A GANG of thieves managed to steal more than £5,000 worth of jewellery in a shop full of staff and customers.
The group of six or eight managed to lift a glass cabinet in the Pandora shop in Blackburn's Mall on Saturday and empty it of its contents, police said.
Officers said the shop staff had been distracted ‘on its busiest day of the year’ as shoppers looked for Mother’s Day gifts.
The theft of £5,000 of rose gold, gold, silver and diamond encrusted charms was only spotted at around 1pm.
Police are now appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious on Saturday to come forward. PC Zain Yl-Haq, of Blackburn's town centre policing team, said: “This theft happened in plain view of staff and customers, so it must have been witnessed by someone.
“The gang have lifted the glass cabinet near to the till and emptied it completely.
“The haul is thought to be in the region of £5,000. I appeal for anyone who saw a group of people acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the Pandora shop to come forward.
“I would also urge anyone who is offered Pandora items at cheap prices down their local pub to contact police.”
Officers are searching CCTV footage for clues.
The gang of between six and eight are described as Eastern European or Asian.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
