'Don't rule out supplying weapons to Syria's rebels' says Blackburn MP Jack Straw

BLACKBURN MP Jack Straw has told Foreign Secretary William Hague not to rule out supplying the Syrian opposition forces with lethal weapons.

He raised the issue as the House of Commons discussed government plans to send armoured cars to help the rebels against President Assad in the civil war.

Mr Straw asked Mr Hague: “You are right not to rule out the option of direct lethal military supplies, but would you acknowledge the strategic diplomatic consequences of any such decision.”

Mr Hague said: “I very much agree with you. It would be a bigger and further step to decide to send lethal equipment, but we cannot rule that out.”

Who is he trying to kid? We are already supplying weapons to Syria, so is America, they just want to concede doing so before they are found out.

The West wants rid of Assad, not because he has turned on his own compatriots, but because he is an obstacle to Iran as a once stable ally. Take Assad out the picture, and Iran becomes more isolated.

Global politics cares nothing for human life, it destroys it out of a neccessity it believes is required. We all know this, and over the last couple of decades, we've all become inured to it, desensitized to the machinations it rolls out year-on-year, and we all perform in our clockwork existence merely to feed it, be compliant and uncomplaining of it.

Any wonder then why the world of humankind looks like a toilet!

I agree, There is lots of hypocrisy in politics. We have the well publicised murder of the civilian workers in Nigeria this week, yet 100,000 civilians lost their lives in Iraq that are now forgotten and how many more will be killed by any arms we supply to Syria?

One reason humankind looks like a toilet, is that when people really, really need our help, we turn the other way based on some silly theories like yours.

How about this for a simple explanation; decent countries want rid of Assad because he is murdering his own people in droves - kids, mums, the lot. Doing the right thing, because we could, used to be plenty justification in the past, even when it meant going against the big boys. Why do you want some complicated theory when there doesn't need to be one?

Assad's a monster, he needs stopping. We are British, we stop monsters. End of theory.

Global politics cares nothing for human life when it is "realpolitik". Realpolitik is exactly the kind of crap you are coming out with - theories and motives behind theories. Tony Blair's Iraq war was realpolitik. It was also unjustified. Israel is awash with realpolitik, especially with Palestine. The unjust nature of Israel's actions are also plain to see. It's the toilet of humankind to which you refer.

When a tyrant like Assad is murdering his own children with scud missles, you are justified helping those trying to stop him. You don't need silly realpolitik theories to cross to the other side of the street and do nothing instead.

The 100,000 civilians in Iraq who have lost their lives aren't forgotten. That war stunk. A proper investigation still needs to happen there.

We're not going into Syria. We're not even flying missions there like we did in Libya.

When we invaded Iraq, it wasn't because Saddam was bombing his own people back to the stone age and they were crying out for our help. The Iraq war might actually have been justified if he had been. Iraq was unjustified because it was for some silly made up reason. Everyone with a sane mind was in agreement on Iraq, before and after.

In Syria right now, Assad really is bombing his own people back to the stone age though, and they really are crying out for our help. It doesn't take a genius to see that it's a totally different situation than Iraq therefore. Britain, when it was Great, used to answer when people cried out for help. Now we turn the other way with a moan it seems, certainly judging by people's comments.

Tony Blair has a lot to answer for doesn't he?

His actions in Iraq in particular, with his "weapons of mass destruction" claim, now mean total misery on the innocent people of an entirely different country years later.

I don't think it was deliberate. I think it was stupidity.

The result is the same for the hundreds of thousands of kids in Syria now though. Who just wanted to live a happy normal life. But the dictator of their country wanted to cling to power so selfishly, that he bombed their homes, and killed their loved ones in front of their eyes; mums, dads, sisters, brothers. Just kids - hundreds of thousands of them having to witness that.

And no-one does anything because Tony Blair made up stuff to take us to war a decade earlier. So no war is justified now apparently. No matter how many innocent children have their lives shattered by a monster.

Shame eh.
