‘Take care of elderly in the cold’
AGE UK has urged people in Blackburn with Darwen to take extra precautions to stay warm after the Met Office put out a cold weather alert for this week.
The charity said protection against the cold was vital for older people who are particularly vulnerable to the impact of low temperatures.
Its tips to protect people’s health and keep warm in winter include keeping bedrooms at 18 degrees Celsius and protecting fingers, mouth and head, parts of the body more sensitive to changes in temperature.
Met Office predictions showed temperatures today (MON) unlikely to get above freezing and although Tuesday and Wednesday will be warmer, temperatures are only expected to reach three or four degrees Celsius.

12:18pm
Another snow shower has hit Blackburn town centre and it's bitterly cold due to the windchill.
The showers are expected to continue throughout the day, but a bright and sunny day is expected tomorrow. It will still feel very cold thanks to the northerly wind.
