Burglars steal Blackburn family's treasured memories

THE brother of a Team GB bobsleigh star had his laptop stolen containing treasured memories of their father who died two years ago today.

Jimmy Walker, 30, the brother of Blackburn bobsleigh number one Paula Walker, said he came home from work to find his red Packard Bell computer had been taken in a break-in.

Police were called and found the burglars had prized open a window and squeezed in through the gap.

The theft came almost two years to the day after the family lost dad Paul to cancer, aged 52.

Mr Walker, of Full View, Blackburn, said the laptop was the only thing taken from his home.

He said: “It wasn’t an expensive laptop as it was a couple of years old. But it had a lot of sentimental value and things that were on it.

“It had pictures of my dad and videos and things like that.

“I should have backed it up but you don’t think about things like that and this is the first time I have been broken into.

“It is a really bad feeling. I am absolutely gutted.”

Mr Walker, who works at BAe Systems in Samlesbury, said: “I didn’t really notice anything at first.

“I couldn’t find the laptop and my partner said I must have put it somewhere else but I knew I had left it on the settee charging.

“They had even unplugged the mouse and just taken the laptop and charger.”

“It is two years since my dad died today so this couldn’t have come at a worse time.”

Sister Paula, who serves with the Royal Signals, said she was devastated when she heard the news.

She said: “Jimmy told my mum, Denise, and she told me.

“I spoke to my brother and he was really upset.

“It was really bad timing with the anniversary of dad’s death.

“I’m happy to offer any sort of reward, whether that is money or whatever. I just really want to get this laptop back.”

Police are investigating the burglary and anyone with information about the it is asked to call 101.
