Man entered Blackburn flat to find burglar rifling through his belongings

A SMOKER who popped out of his flat for a cigarette returned to find a burglar rifling through his belongings.

The 59-year-old who walks with a stick, was threatened by the thief who was searching his flat for cash around 9.15pm.

After confronting the robber, the victim was then threatened with his own walking stick and told to hand over all the money he had in his home in Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn.

DS Mark Saunders, of Blackburn CID, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim, who was confronted by a stranger in his own home.”

During the incident on Friday, the thief managed to steal £10, a handful of change and a whiskey bottle full of brandy.

The thief is described as white, around 40-years-old and 5ft 6ins tall.

He had short almost completely shaven hair and was wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

Is this not a case where the victim was defenceless? Perhaps if the victim had the right to carry a firearm the intruder could have been confronted properly. I know it may sound extreme but if a burglar had to take this into consideration maybe they would reconsider their behaviour.

I carry firearms all the time and a license to back it up.

One's a punch and the other's a kick in the groin.

Why would you have a whiskey bottle full of brandy...

Sad times when you can't leave your front door unlocked for a few minutes without some thieving scumbag taking advantage.
