Active awards for healthy East Lancashire children

HEALTH-conscious children cared for by children’s centres, nurseries, playgroups and childminders are learning how to be fit and strong from an early age.

Nearly 70 early years settings in Lancashire have achieved a Be Active, Eat Healthy award to show they are working to help children understand the importance of exercise and eating healthily.

Lancashire County Council’s health and wellbeing team has worked with NHS colleagues, childminder co-ordinators and early years consultants to help settings improve their practice and win the award.

County Coun Susie Charles, cabinet member for children and schools, said: “Be Active, Eat Healthy is a terrific project and I am impressed by all the work that has taken place.

“We want children and their families to achieve at least lasting changes towards a healthier lifestyle, and activities that lead to this need to be fun, and make them keen to join in.”
