AN artist’s work will be part of a new film after it was spotted by a top Hollywood director.

Ribchester-based Angela Wakefield was delighted when her painting of a New York scene at sunset was featured on the front page of national magazine Art of England.

However, the opportunity also meant the image was spotted by award-winning director Danny Boyle who fell in love with the magazine cover.

Angela was approached last summer by studios Fox Searchlight for her permission to use the image in Danny Boyle’s film Trance and it will be viewed around the world when it is released next month.

The exposure has also seen Angela make a record sale as the painting has since sold to a national collector for $12,500 (£8,244).

The mother-of-two created the acrylic on canvas work at the Ascot Studios Art Gallery in Ribchester where she has been based for 10 years.

She said: “I was at home painting when I heard that he wanted to use it.

“I just could not believe it and it sounded too good to be true.

“I was and am very, very flattered.

“It will be so exciting to see it on the big screen. That kind of thing doesn’t happen every day.”

Director and curator Phil Harwood said: “It was exciting for Angela just for the magazine coverage as she knew it would be seen by lots of people on the arts scene.

“However the reaction has been just amazing.

“As soon as the cover was out a collector called me and said he hadn’t seen new art like it in a long time.

“Then Danny Boyle has seen the image and wants to use it too.

“It’s Angela’s talent that has created this buzz.

“She’s the magic behind it all and after so long it’s only now she is getting the recognition she deserves.”

Boyle’s film Trance, a psychological thriller starring James McAvoy is out in March. To see Angela’s artwork visit ascotstudios.com/angela_ wakefield.htm
