Eight arrested as police swoop in dawn drug raids in Ramsbottom

A HOME in Ramsbottom was one of seven properties targeted by police in a drugs raid yesterday morning.

Specialist officers from Greater Manchester Police’s tactical aid and dogs units used a warrant to enter the house in Fir Street shortly after 6am yesterday. Eight people from Ramsbottom, Bury and Radcliffe were arrested and taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.

The raids were watched by members of the public and councillors including Bury Mayor, Councillor Joan Grimshaw.

Chief Superintendent Caroline Ball, Bury divisional commander at GMP, said: “We continue to target those concerned in the sale and supply of Class A drugs. I hope these arrests, and those over the last year, show the community we are committed in our fight against organised crime.

“Drugs can have a huge effect on the community whether that’s through burglary, robbery or vehicle crime, so cracking down on them is a priority.”

Well done to the police for targeting those suspected of selling and supplying class A drugs. However, it would be appropriate to report the sentences given to those offenders afterwards to help persuade others from doing the same. Re the recent sentences given to offenders in Nelson and Burnley as yet unreported?
