An investigation has been launched after a man was tasered by police while in the custody suite at Burnley Police Station.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is independently investigating a Lancashire police officer’s use of the weapon in September 2012.
Solicitors acting on behalf of a 20-year-old man have complained a Taser was used on him in a cell, and raised concerns about the reasons for the weapon being discharged.
The IPCC investigation will determine whether the use of Taser was proportionate and necessary.
IPPC Commissioner for Lancashire James Dipple-Johnstone said: "We will look at all the available evidence to decide if in this instance the use of Taser was appropriate and that all guidelines and regulations covering use of the weapon were observed by the officers in the custody suite.”
