Blackburn pupils win chance to make a radio advert
9:15am Tuesday 26th February 2013 in News
PUPILS at an East Lancashire high school have been given an exciting chance to write and produce Blackburn College’s official radio commercial.
The college teamed up with UTV and their ‘U Create’ project to offer ten schools in the area the chance to pitch their ideas for the advert.
St Augustine’s RC High, Clitheroe, was crowned the overall winners of the project, with Pleckgate High and Witton Park High sharing runner-up spot. St Augustine’s will now professionally produce and record the commercial, to be aired in March. Claire Berry, head of marketing at Blackburn College, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for students to experience what it is like to produce a real life radio advert with industry professionals. St Augustine’s particularly impressed us with their detailed pitch.
“They had clearly done lots of research.
“They identified the key messages and made links to the website and social media channels very effectively.
“They understood our target audience of 16 to 18-year-olds and parents too.”
Other schools involved included Hollins Technology College, Accrington, Marsden Heights, Brierfield, and Ribblesdale High School.
