MP urged to demand postbox in Pendle

First published in News

A COUNCILLOR has called on Pendle’s MP to redouble his efforts to get a postbox outside the town’s main post office.

Coun Eileen Ansar, who runs her own town centre business, spoke out after Andrew Stephenson had welcomed a number of extra services being introduced at the Place de Creil branch.

Around 18 months ago a 500-signature petition was presented to the MP by staff at the post office, appealing for a postbox to be located there.

Coun Ansar said: “We were supposed to be getting a postbox there but nothing has happened since then.”

How many post boxes does a small town centre need? I think the double post box (normal and franked mail) located just in front of LloydsTSB is perfectly located.

I do however think an actual post box INSIDE the Post Office would be a good idea. Instead of the usual ‘just chuck it in the hatch’ I seen of late.

Heck maybe they could have a dual inside/outside box like the old, old Post Office used to have!

To be honest, unless the postbox is made out of moulded concrete, it would be rather short-sighted to place a cast iron one in such a remote location. You just know that, if has any scrap value at all, it's going to disappear. Sad to say but very true.

In the village where I used to live, the post office itself closed but the postbox, with it's rather unique crest of G R, was there until quite recently. Someone thought that it had more scrap value than the true worth of it's purpose.

The existing postbox is fine, and people cant be arsed to walk around, then thats they own fault. And again Councillor Ansar, not been in the paper for a while, so what the heck lets complain about something else now ! She seems to have an Answer for anything !

Counc. Ansar, shut your trap !

I do like the idea of a postbox inside the post office can't be taken for scrap or vandalised

Councillor Ansar doesn't have an answer for anything. She is just an arch complainer always expecting someone else to do the work. She is a Councillor and should contact Royal Mail either herself or through the Council if she feels so strongly about it
