Masked men stole jewels from Rawtenstall home

THREE masked men burst into a house in Rawtenstall and assaulted a husband and wife before making off with jewellery.

The incident happened in College Lane between 6.30pm and 6.45pm on Wednesday as the man was returning home from work.

He and his wife suffered bruises but were not badly hurt.

It is understood the three men ran towards Staghills Road before getting into a vehicle in New Church Road.

Some of the property was later recovered in Law Street, although the majority of the jewellery is still missing.

DI Jim Elston appealed for anybody who may have seen anybody running away from the scene or any vehicles being driven suspiciously to come forward.

He said: “It appears this was a targeted crime as things like this are not common in this neighbourhood.

“The attackers knew where they were going as opposed to it just being a random attack.”

Anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
