Duke of Lancaster's regiment set for duty in Afghanistan

SOLDIERS from the Second and Fourth battalions of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment are to be deployed to Afghanistan.

Philip Hammond, the Secretary of State for Defence, has confirmed that soldiers from the North West are to be sent to serve in the country and have been in training for potential deployment for several months.

They are expected to travel to the war zone from late March and will serve in roles which will primarily see them mentoring soldiers of the Afghan National Army. The Second Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, which recruits from across the North West, is based at Weeton Barracks near Blackpool.

It will provide around 500 regular soldiers for the operation.

The Fourth Battalion will also provide around 16 Territorial Army soldiers for the tour. It is expected that most of the soldiers will serve on operations for around six months.

The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment currently has soldiers from from its First Battalion serving in Afghanistan. After its mission is completed in the spring, the battallion will return to its home base in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

At no point did I say I recognise Afghanistan's deployment as justified or not but I do massively respect our troops. Each one of them are someone's husband son or brother just doing their job to provide for their families. Not because as you put it they're 'political brain washed fools'. They probably don't care about politics either way but they are doing something really brave and you should have some respect for them and their families preparing for deployment. Anyway I'm done wasting my time arguing with you because you're probably really stubborn as well as stupid, Lorraine.

Don't you come out with that lingo with me you daft silly little kindergarten kid.
At no point did I say I do not respect our troops and when they return back in their coffins because of their brain washing masters, there is no justification in this war, the parents and their loved ones will question the legality of the Afghan war with letter correspondence to No 10, and with signed petition to end our involvement. It would be sensible to dispute and question the war before departing but as we see it the infantry regard themselves as 'heroes' well in advance whilst preparations are in progress!

We're not talking about Iraq but Afganistan. So what do 'you' suggest sen cbl, sit down with tea and fairy cakes and ask the Taliban politely to stop forcing another minority Hitler type regime that's sharia law to bully the muslim masses. Please don't burn books, bomb schools or shoot 14 year old schoolgirls in the head for daring to get educated. We'd really rather you didn't oppress women, beat & stone them if they don't wear the burqa. Ask them in a pc manner not to ban tv, film, internet radio or libraries in case people realise there's a different way of life. Or send in civilised, peace keeping forces to bang home the message into the heads of vicious idiotic murderers. Fortunately the message is getting through and we are seeing changes and we are winning the war!! Even in India!! The world is modernising and the opinions of dinosaurs like you count for 'nothing'. And you know what modern soldiers are. They are on a on wage packet and that includes you. Whereas us, The Dogras, The Gurkhas, The Gandhi's, The Jernadars, The Subnadars were men who left their families and lifestyles to volunteer to fight for their country against the invading Japanese.
