Video: Film shows day in the life of Clarets mascot Bertie Bee

CLARETS mascot Bertie Bee has given fans a sneak peek behind the scenes of his life in a hilarious new film.

A cast of well-known Clarets figures, including former chairman Barry Kilby, manager Sean Dyche and celebrity fan Alastair Campbell, all pay tribute to Bertie in the five-minute clip.

The much-loved character, dubbed the ‘hardest-working mascot in football’, let cameras behind-the-scenes for a rare insight into his life away from Turf Moor.

Bertie’s Bee Movie sees him hard at work on the training pitch with the first-team squad and paying a post-match visit to his favourite haunt, the Bees Knees bar in Hammerton Street.

Mr Kilby describes how Bertie was the ‘outstanding candidate’ for the vacant mascot role when he ‘signed’ back in 2001.

He said: “Since then he’s really earned his stripes. When I really think back about it, he’s been one of our best signings.”

Forward Danny Ings describes Bertie as ‘a great role model’, while Clarets boss Dyche says his backroom staff work hard to keep Bertie at the peak of his powers.

Dyche says: “We believe in what he does for the team, and we are sure that he adds that extra sting in the tail for every performance.”

Club videographer Nicola Wells, the brains behind the award-winning 'Bringing the Boys To You' video, was again the director. She was helped by students at UCFB College of Football Business.

Clarets spokesman Darren Bentley said: “We’re always trying to engage with our youngers fans. Bertie is such an important character at the club, and we just tried to capture that part of his character the kids might not normally see.

“We enlisted the help of some key people at the club and they were more than happy to help.

“It gives kids that extra little bit of magic.”
