A ROAD sweeper van burst into flames on the Grane Road, in Haslingden.

Traffic was forced to turn around or wait until the road, near the junction with Helmshore Road, was cleared, after the incident at around 12.15pm on Saturday.

The county council vehicle, from Great Harwood reclamation centre, caught fire near houses along the busy route. The driver escaped without injury and the cause of the fire was unknown.

Firefighters from Rawtenstall used a hose reel and thermal imaging camera to ensure the blaze was extinguished.
