Relaunch for Darwen record label

BUDDING musicians with ‘something special’ to offer can take advantage of an innovative record label relaunch.

Sunbird Records, set up by Steven Lindley in 1999, has ‘gone digital’ as it bids to promote new artsts while providing listeners with free music.

Owner Steven Lindley said he was inspired by a new generation of talent emerging in the town.

He said: “The label was originally set up for local musicians and we put a few CDs out, but the label has languished for a while. Now we have a new generation of people so we decided to relaunch with a new look, a new ethos and a new roster of acts.

“Formerly we had gigging bands who would sell their CDs at gigs. Now, people are not as interested in CDs and it is much more focused on downloads.”

Mr Lindley said most of the music on the site was now free to download. He added: “We are giving artists a platform to reach a wider audience. People are more interested now in giving away their music as a free download. It is art for art’s sake, rather than a money-making enterprise.”

All music is self-produced by the artist and hosted on the label’s website. For more information, visit www.sunbirdrecords.co.uk.
