SPECIAL awards are to once more recognise dedicated voluntary work in East Lancashire’s local communities.
The Community Foundation for Lancashire has announced the second Spirit of Lancashire Awards to celebrate outstanding work taking place in our neighbourhoods.
Voluntary groups from Accrington, Burnley and Blackburn are among those shortlisted for the honours. The New Freedom Counselling group, Accrington is up for the Community Cohesion Award. The Children, Young People and Families Award, has seen Volunteer Burnley nominated.
The Fair Share Award has seen two Hyndburn groups nominated — Maundy Relief and Prospects.
Cathy Elliott, chief executive of the Community Foundation for Lancashire, said: “This past year has seen great challenges for those working in our communities, but as ever the voluntary sector has really stepped up to the challenge, improving local lives in Lancashire across an array of themes such as tackling homelessness, improving local employment opportunities, and health and well being.”
More than 150 guests are expected to attend the Spirit of Lancashire Awards 2013 awards which will be held on Thursday, February 21 at DeVere Village Herons’ Reach Hotel in Blackpool.
