Split over return of disc parking to Barnoldswick

COUNCILLORS and traders are split over whether disc parking should make a return in a West Craven town.

The debate in Barnoldswick centres on the Wellhouse Road car park, outside the Co-op.

Disc parking was introduced there in 2004, but axed after a widespread public outcry, including a 1,200-signature protest petition.

Members of the West Craven area committee have pledged to re-examine the issue after complaints about motorists finding it difficult to find a space there.

But Barry Matthews, chairman of Barnoldswick and West Craven Chamber of Trade, said he did not believe there was a serious parking problem in the town centre.

What is the point in disc parking apart from extra income for the council in fines. There is plenty of parking available in Barnoldswick. Councillors need to get a grip and do something positive FOR the residents.
