Stacksteads satnav thief had drunk large bottle of vodka

A ‘DRUNKEN’ thief who targeted a works vehicle stole a haul which included a £200 satnav, Burnley magistrates heard.

The court was told Paul O’Connor, 38, struck on January 10 when the vehicle was parked in Farholme Lane, Stacksteads, and had accidentally been left unlocked. Items had been recovered, except for the satnav.

O’Connor, of Newchurch Road, Stacksteads, admitted theft and was given a 12- month conditional discharge. He must pay £200 compensation.

Sue Robinson, defending, said O’Connor had tried to retrieve the stolen goods, but they had been sold on.

O’Connor, who had struggled with drink for about three years, had shown remorse, and had behaved out of character.

She added: “He had drunk a large bottle of vodka and cider, and wasn’t thinking straight.”
