Drop in unemployment in East Lancashire

THE number of unemployed people in East Lancashire is down by 215 on the previous month.

All the boroughs in the region, apart from Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, saw a fall in the amount of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance.

The total number of people looking for work in East Lancs fell from 13,128 in November to 12,913 in December.

In December 2011, 13,125 people in the region were out of work.

In Blackburn with Darwen, the number fell from 4,320 to 4,270 over the month and in Pendle the amount of people looking for work dropped from 2,099 to 2,032.

Rossendale had 83 fewer people out of work in December compared with the fugures for November.

But in Hyndburn, the number rose from 1,865 to 1,934 over the same period and in Ribble Valley four more people were claiming out-of-work benefits.

Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle said: “This is welcome news, though of course we need to continue working to build a stronger economy and a fairer society by bringing more jobs and investment to Burnley.

“The Government's Youth Contract and Work Programme are starting to have a positive effect and we are seeing the benefits in Burnley of the work done over the years by myself and the former Lib Dem-run Council to bring employment to our town.”

Unemployment fell by 10,900 from 1,286,400 in November to 1,275,500 in December in England.

It means that 41,600 people more people across the country were in work last month than during the same period the year before.

It's cheaper for employers to cut hours and employ more people to do the same work because it means employers will overall pay less employers national insurance contributions. Thereby reducing their labour costs.
It also increases competition and insecurity in the workplace. You can decide for yourself whether you think that is good for you or our economy.

are they also counting the people the jobcenterplus throw off the dole for being 2 mins late to sign on the jobcenters are total jokes dont care about any one as long as they reach there targets to get 3 people suspended of the dole a week and that is from the horses mouth a whistle blower who use to work for them

It seems that people forced off benefits into part time work are being counted despite the fact they need top up benefits. many are working on the black market cash in hand. so who wins?

The sanctions will get even worse when the new welfare reforms come in.
Depending on what level the misdemeanor comes under, you could be sanctioned for up to 3 years.

It is amazing that the government are borrowing money at cheap interest to pay off the deficit. It is also true that they are fudging the employment figures to suit themselves.

They cannot blame the people who are fiddling in the Black Economy when you have MPs and others close to government who are themselves fiddling the system.

I cannot see why they do not understand that the Cuts being made are not going to solve the main problem of unemployment. Historty says that you need to borrow to finance capital works. This was the case after the war when 4,5 million men came back to join the unemployed. The then goverment had to borrow moneys to finance capital works programmes.

A simple analogy Work = Tax = reduction in deficit. It is not long ago that we finished paying off those debts. This was done slowly over many years. The economy was allowd to grow by rebuilding our manufacturing industries. These produced good in this country, for this country.

When are they going to learn from history!

UNEMPLOYMENT SOLUTION:
Restrict people to a maximum of 40 hours a week work total ban on all overtime that would create about 5 million jobs.
That's more than the number of unemployed. Enjoy
