Investigation into fire at Rawtenstall children's home

AN investigation is underway after a fire was started in one of the rooms at a children’s home in Rawtenstall on Sunday night.

Firefighters were alerted to a blaze at the Hall Carr Farm home on Hall Carr Road, Rawtenstall, just before 9.40pm. Crews discovered that the fire was out on arrival, but it had caused damage to a bedroom carpet and a curtain.

Richard Edney, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, said that the room was also left smoked damage as a result.

“The cause of the fire was believed to be suspicious and is now under investigation,” he added.

He confirmed that the incident had been reported to the police and a joint inquiry would be launched into the matter.

Hall Carr Farm is attached to Belmont School, in Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, and provides accommodation for boys aged seven to 18 with complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
