East Lancashire groups celebrate lottery grants

EAST Lancashire community groups are celebrating receiving thousands of pounds from the Big Lottery Fund.

In the North West, 59 groups are getting grants from BIG’s Awards For All, which gives up to £10,000 to projects.

A £9,970 grant has been given to Blackburn Integration and Community Engagement scheme for an arts project and to establish a social group of women from Asian communities.

Mid Pennine Arts will use its £9,750 grant to recruit and support deprived volunteers aged 16 to 25 to work with them on their creative programme of activities.

The Burnley and Pendle Miniature Railway Society will use a £5,928 grant for an adapted wheelchair carriage while the Chorley team will spend £9,860 on creative writing workshops, culminating in a public performance and booklet for socially excluded adults.

Ribble Valley Crossroads Care Attendant Scheme in Clitheroe receives £9,738 to run a ‘time bank’ service where volunteers can offer and receive help with DIY, transport, social activities, gardening and respite care for the rurally isolated community of the Ribble Valley.
