EAST Lancashire is being warned to expect more wintry weather today and later into the week.

Snow started to fall yesterday afternoon and remains on the ground across East Lancashire today.

The Met Office says Monday will remain cold and cloudy with rain, sleet and snow throughout the morning.

There is expected to be 'significant accumulation' of snow on higher ground.

This afternoon the weather is expected to become brighter, with wintry showers and a breeze developing. Maximum temperature will be 4 °C.

Showers of rain sleet and snow will continue into the evening, but it is expected to be dry overnight. A hard frost is expected, with temperatures dropping to -3 °C.

Tuesday will remain cold and bright, with a chance of scattered showers in the morning and a maximum temperature of 2 °C.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: “With difficult travelling conditions likely road users are urged to take extra care and check the latest forecast and road conditions before travelling.”

Careful the little cherubs don't get wet either, is that a health and safety issue as well? They might just catch a cold, or what about hailstones , that could injure them too.

it never stopped me getting to school 35 years ago when snow fell in feet noy millimetres.and if teachers choose to live 60 miles from their place of work then tough . dock their pay its their choice

it was only in 2010 that a young girl died after falling on ice near a Blackburn school.
now what was you saying about tosh?

Most child deaths occur in the home, should we ban houses?

Why is it teachers can't get to work, yet nurses, doctors and other health workers manage to get to their place of work.Hospital don't close because of the snow. I live in Burnley and work in Blackburn and have never missed work because of the snow and I live where you have to go up a steep hill to get to the main road. If I miss work I have to take a days holiday, if I am late I have to make the time up. Just think people see a flake of snow and it is an excuse not to go out the door.
As for the child dying, yes it was tragic but it could happen everywhere. The playground should have been gritted better.

I went to school in 1963 and i don't remember any closures then because of the snow.
about 25 years ago my daughter broke her leg in a non snow accident, 2 days later we had about 6 inches of snow and her school then was quite happy to have her attend with her full leg plaster cast , all I had to do was hire a wheelchair to get her to and from school - I had no car in those days

Here we go again, why is it someone puts a comment on here you get others mocking them,some people are **** right rude and pathetic,personally any decent parent would want to know there child/children are safe wouldn't they? I would rather they were safe at home were its warm than in school with no heating and no teachers,if the teachers can't get out to get to school so be it,doesn't mean there lazy,they as everyone has a right to live we're hey want,if they live on top of a hill it's there choice so don't judge.most teachers do a **** good job to what they have to put up with,with some kids ,a lot of parents just want to pawn them off and don't care about there welfare and that's why there's so many brats about,they learn how they live.

majority of deaths in the home where due to accidental injury due to other factors in the home, and not due to the structure of the house itself.
